The Sweet Cocoon's
To provide a place of comfort, peace, compassion and respite for seriously ill and disabled children and their families. To provide a unique experience to these families that are overwhelmed and exhausted.
Also to provide the siblings of the seriously ill and disabled children opportunities to get together, interact, and realize how important, needed and loved they are.
The Sweet Cocoon, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation located in Rome, GA. The mission of The Sweet Cocoon is to build a house of respite/retreat for families that have disabled and/or seriously ill children.
Families will visit The Sweet Cocoon for a few days and have the opportunity to relax and forget about the worries and struggles that come with taking care of a child with health problems. If needed we will also put them in touch with appropriate resources.
We will also host events just for the siblings as often times they feel overlooked.
The plans for the house call for a large open floor plan and for each room to be handicap accessible. The house will have a theater/activity room for Movie Nights and Game Nights. The house will have a handicap accessible pool that will be able to be used year round.
The house will accommodate just two families at a time so that each family gets individualized pampering.
Thanks for visiting!
This website was originally published on Aug. 5th, 2012. Little did I know that I would lose my daughter Marlowe, the inspiration for The Sweet Cocoon, a mere 15 days later. I'm still in shock.
I hold on to the belief that God does everything in His time and that only He is able to see the bigger picture.
While I had know for years that Marlowe's disease, Sanfilippo Syndrome, would take her from me, her passing was very sudden and unexpected.
On August 20th,2012 I tearfully said goodbye to a little girl that had brought me unlimited joy from the moment I first held her. While I am now faced with having to learn to live without the child that all my decisions revolved around for 18 yrs, I have a peace in knowing that her body is healed. She is whole and no longer trapped in a body that doesn't work. She emerged from her sweet cocoon a beautiful butterfly.
I am now more determined than ever to build The Sweet Cocoon to honor her memory.
Many have inquired about donating to the cause, so I have added a donation page. There is an account set up at Northwest Georgia Credit Union in Rome, however, for those of you that are not local, you may donate via Pay Pal now.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Please continue on to the other pages to find out more.
